Mortgage application accepted - safe to apply for a joint account

Hey

We had our mortgage application accepted earlier today.

From a credit searching POV, is it save for us to apply for a joint bank account? or should we wait for a week?

    Why wait?
    Do it.

You should wait for exchange of contracts. Until then the bank can still refuse to lend you the money and may re-check your credit report.

A joint bank account shouldn't affect it, but do you really want to take the risk?

Is there an urgency for the joint account, if so, what is it?

No real urgency. Just want to change the mortgage direct debit details to it.

The bank can, so I was told, refuse to pay up until completion, even after exchange.

However, I wouldn't worry about a single application for a joint account, providing everything else is in order.

I took out a 0% credit card during my application as I had some foreign travel which needed financing - I was most surprised when Nationwide let me pay all my mortgage fees on said card. The cash was there to pay, but I thought I may as well get the reward points and spread the cost!
