Ear ache... (not medical advice)

I gave her Calpol, put a teaspoon of warm olive oil in her ear and bunged it with cotton wool. The next day bloody water/pus kept running out of her ear everytime she tilted her head, and the pain was gone.
Your daughter had a perforated eardrum. The pain went because what hurts is the build up of pressure, once the eardrum perforates (tears) the blood/pus comes out relieving the pressure. Perforations are not uncommon in young children, and heal themselves, although repeated ones should, of course, be referred to your GP.
The oil wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference. Bunging the ear, and then removing the bung may have created a suction effect causing the drum to burst, I guess, but its most likely it just happened by itself tbh.0 -
Maybe not any oil, unless you also want to stop your brain from going rusty.
