During installation I was asked for a PIN number, I have just set one but would prefer not to have one. What are they for? When will I need to put the pin number? Thanks

Don't know.. but at a guess I would think it would be if you wanted to activate some sort of parent lock feature within the TV that restricts kids watching or the type of content.

It may possibly be an antitheft system too, in which case it probably it would only need putting in if the TV is disconnected from the mains or there is a power cut, putting it to standby wouldn't require then.

could be for parent lock features or if it's a "smart TV" it might be used to connect devices (like a mobile app to control the tv like a remote) or to access premium services like netflix / lovefilm/blinkbox if the tv supports it.
