Redundancy - reapplying for your job

Options
if a company tells you there are redundancies coming and you have to reapply for your job. What if you don’t reapply would you still be eligible for the redundancy package if there isn't an option for voluntary?

I've been told that if you don't reapply that you are still employed and in that case the company will need to make you redundant.

Does anyone know of any case history on this?

If you don't apply, you may be considered as not making an effort to avoid dismissal and you are supposed to do your best to do that - as is your employer meant to avoid the redundancy if they can.

You might be eligible for statutory redundancy payment but almost certainly not for any enhanced company scheme.

Depends how the company want to play it.

It can be a risky stratagy if the company is one that does not want to pay out or want to keep you. The apply for your own jobs is just a easy way to get round the selection criteria

failure to apply could be treated as a resignation

Most people know there place in the pecking order and it is usualy not that hard to move down enough to not be offered your job.

Sometimes companies are smart enough to realise that you will go anyway so if that is the case you may have to be carefull not to look to keen.

There is some extra info on redunancy forum but I can't seem to get this up.
