How do I know if my wireless connection is secure?

Hi,
I am a bit of a newbie to laptops and wireless.
I have just bought a new computer and laptop, dd's friend help set it all up, however, yesterday he brought round his own laptop and took control of our laptop through his!
I found the programme he used and I uninstalled it, hopefully he won't do it again!
I am not sure how to find out if our wireless network can be accessed by others, ( I am a bit reluctant to ask him as he is a bit of a hacker!)
How do I get to "view wireless networks" to see if mine is secure?

if you look for the wireless icon on the bottom right of the screen, "Right Click" with the mouse and View all the available networks, you should see yours at the top saying connected and it should have a padlock against itEx forum ambassador

connected with no padlock means you are not secure, see the link in my last post to secure it. It is best to do this with a wired connection.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
