Do I Have a Valid Case?

I've just had my PPI claim rejected by Bank of Scotland for a credit card I took out in 2003. I knew I paid for PPI while I had the card as I came across an old statement, what I wanted to know was, had I been mis-sold it.
After receiving a copy of my credit card agreement, I was perplexed to discover that I'd clearly crossed the box and signed-up for PPI - why? Then on further inspection, I read the first line of that PPI section which says 'We strongly recommend that you protect your monthly card repayments.' It was no a surprise to me then why I'd agreed to it. 10 years ago I was more gullible when it came to PPI and probably panicked after what I read.
Were Bank of Scotland in the wrong for strongly recommending that I take out PPI or am I flogging a dead horse?
Any advise would be most grateful.

It's probably unlikely, since it was only a generic text that doesnt actually say you have to have the policy. When it comes to being recommeded PPI I think they only payout if you spoke with someone who said to you that you should take PPI for some false reasoning.0

Only you can answer that. Not us. However, on paper, it says you selected it or agreed to have it.Then on further inspection, I read the first line of that PPI section which says 'We strongly recommend that you protect your monthly card repayments.' Which pretty much indicates you were not mis-sold.Were Bank of Scotland in the wrong for strongly recommending that I take out PPI or am I flogging a dead horse?
It is clear it is a recommendation and not you being forced into it. Remember that there is nothing wrong with having PPI. It is the sales process that is the issue. You havent identified anything other than the fact you chose to have it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Nothing indicates a mis sale0

If you applied by post too, you missbought because there was no-one there echoing the 'strongly recommend' part....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

If you selected the cover you can't argue you were unaware it was optional, as a conscious decision was made to take it out.
However as they recommended the insurance they had an obligation to check it was suitable for you and you needed it.
You would have to prove you really had no need for the insurance to win the complaint.
Although I've seen the FOS write that, a bank stating the words 'we strongly recommend you take out this valuable protector' does not always constitute a 'recommendation'. FOS are getting dangerously close to contradicting themselves within a single sentence!0
