Disputed Credit Report

I'm currently in the process of trying to get a mortgage over here in Northern Ireland.

The problem is Black Horse Finance, I deferred one loan payment about 18 months ago and asked them to move the payment to the end of the loan which they agreed to do. I continued making the payments on time until the end of the loan in February this year.

I tried to get a mortgage last month but was refused by everybody. I looked at my credit report with Equifax and found that Black Horse, rather than adding one payment to the end of the loan term (as agreed) had instead classified every payment from the point I asked for a deferment as late.

It's absolutely ruined my credit and they are next to useless, insisting there's nothing they can do about it.

I'm seriously annoyed about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you agree to defer the payment by phone or in writing?
Did they confirm that they could in writing to you?

Have the mortgage statements you have received in the last 18months shown that there are arrears on the account?

and they are next to useless, insisting there's nothing they can do about it.

Have you been just talking to them by phone? or have you made a written complaint?

    Tixy,

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify the deferred payment was on a loan and not a mortgage. It was all arranged over the phone.

I'll have to go through and check the paperwork but I'm pretty sure there was just a simple confirmation letter about the deferment and the last end of year statement didn't say there account was in arrears.

I guess I'm after information as to whether it's worth pursuing them to correct the credit file or not. If it's going to be a fruitless task I guess I'll just have to sit and wait a few years to be able to get a mortgage.

    Thanks

If its wrong then its worth getting it corrected. Those incorrect late payments are going to be visible for over 5 years yet.

If you did have a letter about the deferment then it should be fairly easy to prove and get them to change your file.

Thanks, I'll dig out the original paperwork when I return home at the weekend and see how I get on.
