After a dubious spell in my twenties, no ' big' debts, but a couple of storecards with late payments and a general 'la la la bury head in sand' attitude to my financial problems and the fact that I was never approved for anything I found myself in ny mid-thirties with a partner and thinking about the future and mortgage (hopefully). I got my credit reports from Experian, Equifax and Call Credit and saw things that I wasn't expecting, namely a CCJ, an 'alias name' and and a defaulted account with my current bank (Santander)!
Although I was poor at paying things I'm pretty good at keeping paperwork, so I was delighted to find a letter from Sheffield County Court stating that because my CCJ was paid within 28 days it was not only Satisfied but should be REMOVED from my record. Cue quick and simple scan and contact with Call Credit who have now removed completely.
Second was contacting Experian re. The 'alias' that I knew nothing about. Within 24 hours they'd been in touch to say that it had been removed.
Thirdly, I emailed the CEO office at Santander last night, advising that I knew nothing of a defaulted account. Cue a call at 10 this morning to advise that they'd have a look at it and he would give me an update by 4pm on Friday. Two hours later I had another call from hin, to tell me that it was an account that they'd closed when I ipgraded to a (non-fee paying) 'Premier Account'. Unfortunately it hadn't been closed properly and a fee had been charged plus fees on top of the fees. Not only was the default to be removed from my file, but a £50 credit to my current account. I know many will have had poor experiences with Santander, but they really could not have been more prompt and helpful.
The point of all of the above is that for years I've just accepted that I must have a rubbish record and accepted that I'd probably always have to rent, mainly because I'd never actually looked at info that was held on me. It really has taken minimal effort to sort out three fairly detrimental things in my report. And I'm £50 better off for it!
The other things that will hopefully go in my favour is that I've been with my bank since 2005, on the Electoral register at my current address for almost 3 years and I pay everything on time now.

I'm glad we were able to help you promptly. Credit reports only go back six years so adverse entries do eventually disappear
Perhaps you'll have a look at your credit report from time to time now to help make sure it continues to tell a good story.

Don't waste your money subscribing to their services. As at the least misleading when it comes to the value of a credit score.0
