recovering information from damaged floppy disc

HELP!!!!
i have important spreadsheets and other info on a floppy disc- stuppidly its not all backed up elsewhere (i know!!!!)
when i try to access it the folders open but when i click on the files the drive makes a weird noise a bit like its sticking, then the whole laptop freezes up completely.
have checked the drive by putting in another floppy and that was fine.
have also tried to write files on to a CD but it wont let me.
any one got any ideas, im really panicking as i need some of the info for my business accounts.

can you manually turn the center of the floppy ?? you should be able to move it about
make sure the metal cover at the front moves easilyEx forum ambassador
