Hi All,
I am hoping one of you lovely people will be able to help me with a few issues I am having with my storage company.
Myself and my husband have moved quite a few times between Northern Ireland and England and always used the same removals/storage company. The first time we lost a whole box of shoes (mine and I was not impressed) however the removals company insisted that they were not at fault and that maybe I didn't put the box in the area where they were picking everything up (an alleyway in the street where I stood the entire collection time). We decided not to hold this against them. The last time we have used them in March this year, they provided an invoice dating from the 28th Feb to 14th April. We paid this invoice without any hassle. We recently received a new invoice but this was dated from 11.4.13 - 29.5.13. I queried this as I thought we had paid until 14.4.13. They came back to me saying that was a "typo" on my first invoice and the dates in the new invoice are in fact correct. I asked for an amended invoice with the correct dates for my records to which they responded that they cant amend an invoice that is already on their system. Surely they have to provide me with the correct invoice with the right dates by law?
The second issue I have with them is that all our stuff is stored in big wooden boxes, we have 2 boxes full of our stuff, when we signed the terms and conditions nowhere does it say that we cant have access to our belongings, nor does it state that we would be charged anything to access it.
However we recently asked for access as I had an interview and needed my exam certificates. When I first queried this I was told I could have access, then I got an email to say that this was incorrect and I would actually have to pay £40 + VAT to access my stuff. I asked why this wasn't stated on the terms and conditions and the response was "well it doesn't say on the terms and conditions that you can have access and that we wont charge for it". I feel I have been mislead and am very upset, I am in the process of setting up my own business and so this is a huge amount of money for me. I agreed to pay it as I needed my certificates but feel there must be something somewhere which clarifies my rights?
Can anyone point me to any legal wording that could help me here?
Sorry about the long post!
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately from a consumer point of view, this is a civil issue. If you are unhappy with the costs imposed, then you need to bring a small claim against them. However, for the cost of £40 it hardly seems worth it although I can see how you are annoyed.
With regard to the invoice, yes, they must provide an accurate one. Insist on it.
On the whole, I suggest you make a trip to their offices and air your grievances in person...preferably in a crowded front office.
Finally, dont use them again then and make it clear that this is your intention unless you get satisfaction.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

I'd pay the £40, then find another company to supply the service..0
