Sky - permanent message alert tone

As it says above really. Has been going on for about 6 weeks! Have rung it from mobile , left a message and deleted it which has worked previously and also archived a message and deleted it as recommended on a forum.
Spoke to Sky who asked me to turn the phone on and off! They are now suggesting I dismantle the socket to bypass the filter. Is there any logic in this? I can't see it, but am prepared to be corrected!
