Why going to a branch if you can do everything online?

Because I had already looked online and it said that I needed a minimum amount going into both accounts to maintain the benefits. Having now asked in a branch they have confirmed this.
As you already have a Flex account, how about a Nationwide Select credit card? There's 0% on purchases for a year and foreign purchases are commission free so it will be good for spending in Spain. It also gives you an interest free balance transfer for 20 months with a 3% fee.

    James.

Thanks for that James. Unfortunately I already have one of those cards and presumably the free balance transfer is also "brand new customers only". I will be hiring a car abroad though so from what you are saying it would be best to pay that with my NW credit card rather than the Halifax one?

I thought that the only 'benefit' you needed with the Direct one was the free overdraft.

What happens if I don’t pay £1,000 a month into my account? We won’t be able to pay you credit interest on your balance in any month you don’t pay in £1,000.
Yet another proof of how useful visits to branches are.
