What some posters have said about sites is quite correct. I get asked for my firm to do sites all the time, we explain a website is only 10-20% of the package.

We look at branding, market, positioning, a real SWOT, your route to market etc, etc.

Then they tell you they have £800

If that's the case, go and waste your money on a template site.

A website is a complete service and all too often people think its the same as a brochure.

If that's all you want, fine. If you want an active sales person, you have to pay a realistic amount.

    Hi,
I hope this is the right place. I am in the process of starting up my new business. I need a website that I can sell from. The client base I'm dealing with seem to be quite unhappy with using ebay and to be honest I'd prefer to have my own site so I don't have to deal with ebay and paypal fees. I need a domain name and a site that I can update myself. I've looked at a few services but I was wondering if anyone had had any good experience with one they could share. Thank you for your time.

I've used and continue to use Microsoft Frontpage 2003 which is simple and effective and you can normally get a free download from the much respected site download.cnet.

One of the other routes for websites is through Wordpress. This is a straightforward process enabling you to write content, upload your images, insert your own and/or affiliate links and is well thought of by Google and the other main search engines.

Best of luck in which path you take in 2013.

Not personally used, but I've heard positive things from friends of mine who use it, also in conjunction with their eBay stores.

    Try http://www.mwduk.com/

I have used this guy for years. Good for simple ecommerce websites and ebay shops (can match the design for streamline branding) and cheap too. He uses the simple opensource cubecart system, which has loads of cheap modifications available, including a great SEO mod.

A shop he did for me years ago is still top of google organic search for the main product keyword (and has been top from virtually day one). However, this is somewhat down to my SEO knowledge.

You can also have your site hosted by this company for £6 per month or you can host yourself.

FYI - I have no connection with this company, I am just a customer.

Shopify is great, we've written several gateways that they offer on the site. I will say the only down side is it takes. Specialist if you intend porting from it to another platform. Apart from that, 53 payment gateways, good and working API's that are checked regularly.
