Time for a new boiler?

Hi

I Have a Vaillant Turbomax VUW 242 E combi boiler installed in 1998 in the garage (part of the house) at the time the house was extended. There is no cold water tank in the loft and no hot water cylinder.

In the past few years it has broken down a few times and needed quite a lot of new parts and is currently faulty with no hot water unless the heating is on. I live in an extended 4 bedroomed 1930's house with my wife and 3 teenage children with quite a lot of demand for hot water, baths, showers, washing machine, dishwasher etc. My current boiler has always felt like it was on the edge of its capacity.

I am thinking of buying a new combi boiler rather than having the old one fixed and am seeking some advice about which boiler to chose.

I am considering either Vaillant or Worcester boilers of about 30 to 38 KW capacity, possibly with a hot water cylinder, a thermostat in the hall and possibly a weather compensation controller if this of value.

I am expecting to have to pay about £1200 for the boiler plus costs of fitting it.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

thanks

Richard

    Sticking diverter valve?
It does sound as though a combi is not suitable for your property. I'd be looking at an unvented cylinder and conventional boiler.

With a combi there is no point going larger than your incoming mains flow rate can support, so make sure you get a decent company to check it and advise you the best installation for your property. The diaphragm will probably be holed on your current boiler, it's up to a couple of hours work.

Thanks macman and ollski. I don't think I could replace the combi I have with a conventional boiler system as I have no cold water tank in the loft now.

I have timed the flow rate of the cold water from the kitchen sink tap which is above the stop !!!!, to about 13 litres per min.

Any advice on where I could get a good deal on a new combi boiler would be very much appreicated.

    Thanks
