Sorry, slightly O/T so apologies, but is number dyslexia professionally recognised - I mean, have you been diagnosed with number dyslexia bs or is it a term you use to explain why maths isn't your thing?

I can't remember all the details because I was only about 10 at the time but my teachers noticed that I couldnt do the easiest sums at school but I was top in the class in all the other classes. I would struggle with everything to do with numbers so I was sent to a special tutor who couldn't teach me either and then I remember going to see a specialist at the hospital about it. It does say on my medical records about being number dyslexic but how they arrived at that decision I wouldn't know unless I looked at my medical records.

OMG thats who my transactions were to. I bank with Nationwide.

I had exactly the same with nationwide - filled in the forms and awaiting to see if they refund it. I still cant work out where they got my details from - my card has never been used on the net.

My partner's card details were stolen some time this week we think. He tried to take money out of the ATM yesterday and was refused, which was odd as he had just been paid. He checked his account online at lunchtime and everything appeared fine. Then later in the afternoon I got a phonecall from a hotel we had booked on Sunday to say that his card had been refused. By the time my partner got home from work he checked his account online again to discover that there £5 paid to the Odeon online, and several payments to T-Mobile adding up to £200 - neither of which we use.

He called his bank and they were really good about cancelling the card, especially as while he was on the phone the operative noticed a payment of £1200 and another of £500 coming off the account. He should get a new card by Thursday, and the stolen money returned to his account by Tuesday.

We've been trying to work out where they got our details from. We think it must have been something we did online as all the fraudulant transactions have been online so far and require our address, security code etc. The only thing we have bought online in the past week has been the hotel reservation, and a pizza hut delivery (which we've never had any problems with before).

Does anyone else think its a bit odd that although we made our hotel reservation on Sunday, the hotel didn't try to process the payment until Friday? We had thought it had been processed at the time, but obviously there must be a manual payment from within the hotel, which makes us think that they are the source. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? What's the average turn around time from having your details stolen to your card actually being used? Is it pretty quick or a few days?

P.s I see a lot of people mentioning Blizzard Entertainment - they make games (World of Warcraft) that requires an online subscription.

I am genuinely interested in this and would like to know, if number dyslexia is professionally recognised, what are the procedures for having it recognised?

The professional term is Dyscalculia. You can read about it here:

    Hi BS,
How awful for you to have this happen to you once let alone twice!
My mother had this happen to her, luckily her bank (Ltsb) picked it up after just one transaction for a very small amount, she received a phone call from the bank to query it because she would not normally use her card to pay for such a small amount.
I am one of those people that checks their bank online 3 or 4 times a day, I must seem very paranoid:o
I know that a couple of the banks now have virtual cards for online shopping, I am not sure whether they are any safer, but I believe that they change your card number every time that you use it.

I had a letter from the bank on saturday asking me to confirm the transactions on my account which were fraudulent. Inbetween the original letter I had and them stopping my card someone took £1501 out of my account  So thats about £2,000 in all which someone took. Luckily it has been refunded.

I've gone through my statements with a fine toothed comb and the only thing I can see which I did when I first got hit and did again the second time was order a card from Moonpig. I was going to order another one soon for my cousins wedding but I think I'll give it a miss and just buy a regular one just incase.

I think I've got rid of that now with your advice. Could that have been it?
