fee to re join sky tv?

hi guys hope someone can help
I have tried posting this on the board for digital tv but there doesn't seem to be many people using / replying to topics on there so thought someone here might have some experience with this
I moved out of my rented house at the end of march and cancelled my sky package as I was waiting to exchange/complete on new house.
in the mean time I was staying with my parents and didn't know how long it was going to take to get into new place.
when I cancelled they said I could 'freeze' my account but would still charge me £21 pm - i didn't want this & they tried to say if I didn't do it this way when/if I try and rejoin when I moved I might be charged a fee to re join.
I still have the box and dish but new flat has communal dish so I don't need anything installed.
has anyone else done this recently and were you charged a lot to rejoin?
thanks in advance for any help

I've always wondered how they actually check this.
To use a hypothetical example - John Smith leaves 1 High Street and cancels his sky package. They bid fond farewells and John is told that he will have to pay a surcharge if he wants to reconnect within 12 months.
Two weeks later, A John Smith of 1 Main Avenue calls Sky to purchase a new package from them.
How do sky ever know if its the same person?0 -
Bloody hell sky have been begging me to go back to them offering half price packages for 12 months0
-
I would have just quit and when I went to rejoin and they asked if I was an existing SKY customer, or had it before, I'd have just mumbled something about 'ages ago, but had to cancel it' (if you say it was cos it got too expensive, it'll probably go in your favour!).
And always ring them - don't just do some online deal. They pretty much halved what I should be paying for all I get.

Hi there
Sky are notoriously aggressive in the techniques used when you try to cancel - do not be swayed by what they tell you.
Just cancel and call them up (or go online to order) when you are ready to do so.
Best wishes

Thanks guys
I wasn't sure whether to just sign up as a new customer, get a new box & dish & flog the old ones on eBay or something0 -
I'd sign up as a new customer, and get them to do a better deal. I did that and got £100 of m&s vouchers too.
Sold my old box for about twenty quid0 -
If the flat has a communal dish you need to check that you can install your own separate dish.0

My parents go told the same thing. They also got told they couldnt cancl and put it in the other persons name, even though they refused to do any deals for them and they have been with them for years.£2 Savers club £0/£150
1p a day £/0 -
Funny, because once you cancel they'll beg you to come back!
Trust me, dont believe them, they wont charge you, might take some haggling/negotiating, but you be back for free0
