hello folks,
Have searched the forums and haven't come accross this one before.
i have started my own limited company and registred with companies house etc. i would now like to open a website which has a differant name to my registed company name. Does anybody know if i have to put a prefix next to my website name? i.e owned and operated by xyz limited. As any business generated through the website i intend to put through my limited company.
Hope that makes sense!
Thanks in advance,
daws

no you dont. but all websites should have a Legal / T&C bit, may be wort sticking in there0

I think you do. Companies Act 2006 made it a legal requirement from 1 January 2007 that electronic documents such as websites and e-mails must carry details such as company name, registered number, registered office etc.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0

thanks for your replys, so by the sounds of it i should stick in the legal jargon and my website will have to have my trading name, office etc..
i will have a look at the companies act 2006 for further info.
cheers,

There's a lot on the Companies Act 2006 out there. Try this link amongst others on the bit affecting websites:

As far as I know you'd need to put on every page of your website
XYZ is a trading name of Your Company Ltd, Registered Office: xxxxxx Company Number: yyyyyyy0 -
i think if you look at other company sites , they only have details on one page
you could put your company name at the bottom of each page0 -
thanks for your replies, i think i have just about sussed it now. i will include kilty's remark and put 'XYZ is a trading name of Your Company Ltd, Registered Office: xxxxxx Company Number: yyyyyyy' and i will put in some standard t & c's and copyright etc.
All i need to suss out now is how to sort my website out!
thanks again

B&Q manages to use diy.com - but it's clear when you visit the site that you're dealing with B&Q.
I think your question is ... "If my Company is registered as ABC Ltd, can I operate via XYZ.co.uk?" If so, then the answer is yes, but the home page should make it abundantly clear that the visitor is dealing with ABC Ltd and not be mislead into thinking that they're dealing with a completely different company.
The alternative is to register XYZ.co.uk but have it redirect to the Cmpany website (if you have one).Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
