The locksmith quoted his cost it seems. So no lie there unless OP can prove what the LS paid for the item.

OP has specifically stated that "my particular lock was a rare one" and "he assured me that this was a fair price for the lock".

    It appears both are lies.

So can we gather some facts? Instead of your 'well researched and experienced security lies'?

A Banham lock common in many London flats has a cylinder that costs £100+ to replace.

A Euro lock can be a £4 cheese slice or a £40+ 3 star TS007 rated anti snap

A Trioving oval cylinder can also be £100+

I have to admit - if the guy used a 'rare cylinder' in his patter then it won't be in his van for fitting on site.... rare locks are not carried on a van?? How can he have this rare lock to hand??

From a legal view - you agreed to the service, and paid for it.

In the future maybe ask a registered Master Locksmith to do the work - and you will have a recourse.

Deal with the lowest bidder and you will lose out eventually, it started cheap - and got worse, because you only listened to PRICE and not the value or advice.
Next time deal with someone who has a name that's worth something - instead of a nobody who will do it for nothing and charge the earth.
