    Hi All,

When I take a shower, it is taking longer for the water / soap to go down the plughole !!

I remember watching Kim and Aggie a while ago and they recommended using a concoction of (I think) vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and something else ....

Does anybody know this (or similar) "recipe" ??

I use bicarb of soda, pour about a cupful down the lug hole, add approx 2 tbsp of vinegar and watch it explode :) I then put the plug in for about half an hour and let it bubble and fizz away then I pour a kettle of boiling water down the plug hole to flush it through

    HTH

It may also be worth checking that theres no hair blocking the plug hoole as that will stop it clearing quickly, its amazing how much can get trapped below the plug hole when you can only see a small amount above

Also, for future reference, get yourself one of those wee things you fit over the plughole, not sure how to describe it, a bit like a mini colander. They catch all the hair which would normally go down the plughole.

For info, I used soda crystals in the end for best results - put one cupful over the plughole, then a small amount of boiling water to get it to a 'paste' consistency so it would start going down.

Left it for 15 mins then put another cupful of soda crystals down, this time with more boiling water so more liquidy. 15 mins later poured boiling water from on high.... it worked!

  • Hi, I'm looking for a cheaper way of unblocking my shower drain. The shower in our rented flat drains very slowly/not at all (!) unless I unblock it every 4 or so days. I'm fed up of buying that expensive drain unblocker where you have to pour the whole bottle down the drain. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Our landlord is a bit... (wont say it here) and says we must be doing something to it and so we have to pay for his plumber to come take the whole thing apart (no can do, especially just before Christmas!)
I've tried bleach (my mum said to try it) but it doesn't work very well and I don't really feel comfortable with bleaching where I'm standing naked!!!
    Thanks in advance

Pour bicarb soda down and then pour vinegar on it. The reaction creates lots of carbon dioxide that unblocks the plug hole.

Afterwards you should buy one of those drain covers that will catch the hair and odd bits of soap.
  • Maybe there's a lot of hair stuck in the plughole?
If you take a cotton bud or skewer and stick it down the plughole, twist it around and pull it up you might find there's a lot of hair there. Keep doing this until there's no more and see if that helps. It is amazing how much we moult!

This process is a bit gross, but persevere, maybe wear gloves?

    It's only a game

    Hi katykatkins,

There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together.
