Hemel Sportspace Parking Invoice

Hi,

I recently received a parking notice from Civil Enforcement Ltd. for parking at the Hemel Hempstead Sportspace centre.

They require uses of the sports centre to enter their registration number into the console to allow a maximum 3 hours free parking for authorised users.

I played a game of badminton for an hour and was parked from 10:02:41 to 11:24:23 according to the parking ticket.

Unfortunately it’s a new car and I entered the last three letters of the registration number incorrectly (VUX instead of VXU) into the console which has resulted into a parking invoice.

This is one fine I really don’t think I should be paying.

Any thoughts on how I should go about this?

This should definitely be challenged they are supposed to use common sense in cases like this. You just scan your ticket in and tell them to cancel it. You have identified yourself on a public forum so they know who you are exactly and can see the advice you are getting.

Tell them that its your final response and to give the popla verification code to appeal independently, popla will find in your favour with help from us on here and pepipoo.com

Have a look at the BPA Code of Practice. Apart from other things PPCs also get wrong (like dodgy signs and wording on the letters, missed deadlines and all) there is also a guideline about 'checking' P&D machines I think and also a general guideline about fairness (haha!!). Quote it at the scammers and enclose a copy of your P&D ticket and say you expect them to cancel of course or you will take the matter to the next stage of appeal at POPLA (which costs them money and you nowt!).

By the way you should never just pay any parking ticket.

Council ones can almost all be appealed sucessfully in the end and private ones are a scam but with a bit of work on a POPLA appeal they can also be overturned at that independent appeal stage.

Read any other threads about ANY private parking company (loads!!) that you can see on the first couple of current pages on this forum and you'll see this con discussed and lots of info about how to challenge without naming yourself as the driver. Respond as the registered keeper and discuss 'the car' in the third person.

Do not word the POPLA appeal without help if it goes to that stage.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • I too got caught by these cameras as did approximately 10 other customers who were queuing to complain with me earlier. Some had forgotten to enter details others had not noticed signs when rushing in to the sports centre.

    Congratulations Sportspace great idea!

Mrs Allan - You really need to post a new thread on this as the disabled aspect opens a very different avenue of approach to this and mixing it-up here could well get confusing.

I don't actually know how to do that and when I queried the parking fine, I was told that it didn't make any difference whether it was disabled parking or not - all cars are treated the same - and so I assumed this was the forum for everyone. Sorry.

This is just someone's thread. Like reading just one little page in a big book of threads! The forum is always one click away, see my signature for where to click and then you'll see the large blue and obvious 'new thread' button on the forum this tiny thread is part of.

Do you mean Sportspace or CEL told you that?

If so, then you have some quite serious and illegal misdirection to consider. Do not let this lie!

Follow Coupon-mad's advice above to get stuck into this one! :)

Sorry - I did not make that clear - it was Civil Enforcement Ltd that told me that all vehicles are treated the same, via numberplate recognition, irrespective of whether or not a Blue Badge was used.

If that is the case they are breaching the Equality Act 2010, they must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, this is not some T&Cs in a car park, this is primary legislation! So in other words law
