obviously questioning why his insurer had not notified him etc,. Turns out, the insurance company had emailed..my boyfriend rarely checks emails. (I have told him off for this lol)

Im so glad that someone hit your bf's car as opposed to him hitting someone elses car.

What i would say is and not being nasty, but your bf needs to take responsibilty rather than blaming his car insurer.

I assume you bf took his policy out from one of the online car insurers, who then tend to do business by email, hence the reason they are online.

If he had been stopped by the police, they wouldnt be happy he was blaming the car insurer, and they would be more blunt than me.

The issue of him having no insurance, makes no difference to the damage caused by the bus.

It just means he has do to the leg work instead of his insurer.
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

Obviously from your perspective the driving without insurance charge would be a much bigger problem than the damage to your car,

he had no insurance, oversight, but he wasnt caught driving w/out insurance, so i cant see any action from the police.

No it couldn't because for Driving Other Cars extension to work on a friend's fully comp policy, the car you borrow has to have insurance in place in the first place.
I'm with LV+ & i can drive another car not belonging to me,with no mention that it has to be insured,it was the same with my previous Esure policy.

Esure currently require the owner to have it insured.

    Not all policies require that.

    I stand corrected then

For the record, buses are so big with plenty of blind spots, it's perfectly possible for a bus to hit a parked car and not realise, this may explain the bus driver driving off

A lot of buses now have cameras installed. I've had videos in the office showing maybe 6 views from a bus - you don't always see the impact but quite often tell from passengers reaction where it happened.

OP, get on to the bus company with address and date and time. Probably the sooner the better in case they videos get erased after a certain time.

It is technically an offence to have a vehicle on the road without insurance now but this is normally dealt with automatically by the DVLA and so police rarely would be bothered.

That said, they'd ask the fairly obvious questions of when the vehicle was last driven etc and by the sounds of it from the OP it isnt a laid up vehicle

This is exactly the view that we have too. Like I said, we were horrified to find that he was not insured and believe me I have given him an earful for not knowing when his insurance ends but to be fair, I also have to remind him when his own birthday is lol.

I think as it stands, he is just going to swallow the cost and is just thankful it was not more serious. Its an expensive lesson learned but at least no one was hurt.

On the subject of the bus driver not knowing, I doubt this is possible as there are parts of the bus in my bf car that he pulled out of the wheel arch. Also, the force of the bus actually moved his car! Also the witness chased the bus.

Thanks for all of your feedback, its all very much appreciated.
