Definition of "Last minute" - for the best bargains?

I am about to book a holiday in the sun for my gf and myself. Looking to spend 150-300 each for the week of 13/7/2013. I have seen many holidays on the icelolly.com website butwant to know when the best time to snag a so called "last minute" bargain is.
As it is about 5 weeks until I leave am I in the perfect time now or is it best to wait? Likely an in-exact science but wondered if anyone else has any thoughts/

On that path lies danger
icelolly.com really don't have a good rep
If you can find flights at a reasonable cost, grab them then start looking for a hotel etc.
Or for packages maybe Thomson's late deals page?
Turkey seems to have an abundance of unsold holidays right now, for some reason

Looking to go to Turkey in august and not surprised about the unsold holidays; maybe the reason behind this is the war in Syria and the recent manifestation that is going on in at least 60 cities.
I found Icelolly prices very good but noticed that some says they haven't got a good reputation and other state the opposite.
I always thought that what travel agencies do is put together flights, accommodations etc and put some charges on it in order to charge you for the work they've done.
However, having checked my holidays separates, flight costs around 300pp, plus accommodation which is around 100pp each, it turns out that it will cost around £350-450 pp but through some travel agencies it gives me lower prices like around £350(for same dates)
How is this possible?0 -
it might be that they have block-booked and paid for several rooms at particular hotels so want to get some of their investment back by selling at lower prices than the hotels themselves. or if it is a company like Thomsons who have their own planes they will want to fill the seats as part of their package rather than flight only0

As far as I know, Ice Lolly is basically just a price comparison site that will redirect you to individual suppliers. Definitely do some research on who you are actually booking from. If you can't find any info that's a red flag in itself.0
