I'm in a similar position. We only have nurce 3 days a week but for about 4 hours each day - 10-2 I think.

I am lucky though as my company allows time off for cancer screening (as did my last company actually) so it isn't a problem.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I was told that my local community sexual health clinic does them in the evening....fortunately the practice nurse did mine as I had visions of sitting in the waiting room with a load of teenagers lol!

Recently I saw my GP regarding a number of issues, one being that I needed my Depo jab, as I was leaving one of the Receptionists shouted across at me that in future I should see the Nurse for my Depo as GP's aren't allowed to do them (she knew as the Doctor had to call and ask for one to be brought into the room) I did explain I was seeing him for a number of other reasons, but was gobsmacked at her shouting across the surgery at me!

I think I would have marched right up to her and told her that she needed to go on a patient confidentiality course in no uncertain terms......and then ask how I make an official compliant.

I'd rebook with the doctor. They will do more than just the smear test, in my case they took some swabs to check for infections whilst they were at it. The doctor could also see what the problem was, and I got referred to the hospital for treatment. The nurse wouldn't have been in a position to do that and would have referred you back to the doctor. It was nothing sinister at all, quite common in fact. Feel free to PM me if you want more information.

    I sympathise with the OP.

At my local surgery the doctors used to do the smears but now it is the nurse. I have tried a couple of times to get an appointment but she is usually booked up for weeks. As my periods are irregular trying to book a smear test weeks in advance doesn't really work too well. I have several times booked an appointment and then had to cancel because "Aunt Flo" came early.

As an alternative, I have been given the number of a local clinic by the surgery but like the OP, I work in an open plan office and if I try and phone up "to book a smear test" several dozen people will be listening in. So I have gone and sat in the car at lunchtime and tried to call from my mobile but the number is constantly engaged. Using ringback isn't really helpful as by the time they call back I am usually back at my desk.

The clinic is only open 9am - 5pm and although I have a day off on 11th June I am kind of running out of time to try and get an appointment. Also, the reason I have taken 11th June off is to see my solicitor and take my daughter to a dress rehearsal for her dance show so I don't have an awful lot of time.

It has now been 4 months since I got my original reminder and I am no nearer being able to get an appointment. :(
