Unrecognised search

Options
I have looked at my equifax credit report this evening, and there was a credit search made by Sygma bank (creation finance ltd) on the 3rd April.
I have been very careful this year not to apply for any credit, and certainly havent applied for anything through creation finance. It is not on my noddle (call credit) report, and I haven't looked at experian.
I've sent equifax a message telling them the search was not made by me and asked them to remove it,but what do I do if they don't? Also, should I be doing anything about the fact a search has appeared that I had nothing to do with?

Thanks

You could contact creation finance and ask why they searched your file. If you suspect identity fraud I'm sure they'd have to give some kind of explanation.

Can you think of anyone who might have tried to apply for credit in your name?

Any recent issues with loss / theft of any ID documents or anything maybe?

It could just be an error. But if there is a possible ID theft then discuss with the credit reference agencies and consider looking in to CIFAS protective registration.

I've been really careful this year actually, I got a shredder in January and have been shredding everything important. I change passwords etc regularly, and no new accounts have been opened, only a credit search.

I have applied for my statuatory experian report too so I'll see if its on there. Hopefully it's just on the equifax one and they will remove it.

I'll also email creation and ask them why they have done a search.

    Thanks

Creation do a number of store cards...have you applied for one or not realised you have applied for one, say in a store?

  • Thanks use the force, but I haven't applied for any store cards this year. I've got a next account, but that's all and it's not been used this year and I don't think its related to creation finance.

I only do shopping online so definately wouldnt have been signed up in store anywhere, and the only shopping I have done in the last few months was from New look and definately didnt apply for credit.

I'll be really intrigued to see what creation finance have to say.
