I was caught speeding 61 in a 50. however thats the simple part.
I sold the car and moved house with the fine details all sent to my old address. Now some months ago the tenancy on the house ended and i entered and found that a large portion of mail hadnt been forwarded on and I had two days to send of my plea form and accept the points. I attempted to visit the local distict police station to deliver this by hand and when i was told i couldnt give it in by hand I called the number in the form and was told they would extend the deadline by 7 days. I then posted the form off 1st class and a cover note explaining that I had moved address, filled in the form and sent back to the address with the cheque and my licences.
However the next thing I know I had a letter telling me I had a court summons to appear at due to ignoring the letters and that I had to send my licences and a postal plea notice should I not wish to attend. I tried to call the number, at one point I couldnt get through after 20+ calls through out a 48hr period so i filled in the form explained that I was not avoiding the fine it had been sent a few weeks after I had sold the car and moved house, didnt dispute the fine or the points and was happy to plead guilty.
Ive now received a 3 points as expected however they have fined me £160, costs of £60 and victim sur £20 total £240!!
Whats is going on?? Can I appeal, that is mental concidering that originally they said not to worry and extended the deadline 7 days only to send back the cheque and even used the completed form as evidence in the court evidence.
Can some please help me as to whether an appeal is possible or will work?
