Car Insurance Question

I have taken out a new insurance policy on the car i've just bought. When I had my previous car there was an attempted theft on it. I didn't make a claim but reported it to the car insurance I had at the time (I wish I didn't now) so the insurance company didn't have to pay out anything.
However when I took out this new policy with this new insurer they have charged me £122 more for a discrepancy because my old insurance company told them I made a claim but I didn't I just reported it. I also have 3 years no claims discount but during the application I didn't state that I had made a claim because I thought that question was just for those who did.
My question is how can they say I made a previous claim and have 3 years no claims?

Because they are two separate things.
The question usually is 'Have you had any claims, losses or incidents?'. You answered 'no' which wasn't correct.
But I thought that was if a claim was made such as a payment being made.
If that is the case for how long do I have to say "yes" do I have to declare that in my renewel next year and so on?
So shouldn't I have lost my no claims?0 -

You had an incident. You'll have to declare for 3/5 years - whatever the insurance company asks for.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Ok thank you0

It all hinges on EXACTLY what they asked for - can you recall? If just a claim, then no - you only advised them of an incident so you should not be penalised. As with all this, the devil is in the detail!0
