Watching TV on PC

Hi all. I'm being very adventurous this am. I've connected a remote kit - a usb connected boxy thing with red light and remote control for computer. I've even managed to put in an analogue aerial as I wasn't getting reception! Now I can watch ITV. However I would like to watch freeview as well. I haven't a clue however what a dongle etc is but suspect I might need one. As explained before I'm not very technical but will try (mess) with anything. Advice please on exactly what I need in plain english. I've reviewed a few sites already here but don't fully understand what I need. I don't want to waste money if I don't have to!!!!
2p or not 2p? That is the question!

You need some form of digital tuner, either a digital tv tuner dongle (ie something you plug into your pc/USB port) or a digital tv tuner card (PCI) you put inside your pc.

Thanks superscraper. How would I know if there is a digital tv tuner card in my pc already please? Is there some way I can check?

Like a few things, if you have to ask, you most likely don't have it. They're not a standard component, you'd had to specifically request it. Also an aerial/aerial coax socket on the back of the pc would be the easiest to determine that. Lavalys's Everest application is pretty good at detemining the hardware in your pc. I think the free version is still available or a least a trial version. http://www.lavalys.com

It sounds like it may be an analogue tuner though, in which case you'd have to change it for a digital one to get freeview. But run the Everest program or check under "hardware" on My computer's properties and see if you can find anything called "tuner" and look up the model details or post them here.
