The Turks are revolting.

It was only a matter of time, I suppose, before ordinary decent Turks rebelled against the increasing Islamification of what is a secular country.
But anyone who has travelled away from the tourist resorts will know how backward much of the rural country is.
Turkey could be in for a long, hot summer and even places such as Bodrum have been caught up in the violence.
The vicious reaction by police and army and the fact that more Turkish journalists are in jail than any other country shows this is still an unpleasant place in which to take a holiday.
Good luck to anyone who has booked.

I always advise people to heed the warnings of the FCO.
Which is why I'd probably go to Turkey rather than Egypt at the moment although both are fairly horrible countries - similar human rights abuses and ingrained misogynism.
Give me a wonderful Greek island with polite, civilised people any time.0 -
