Wireless or wired? If wireless are you encrypted (WEP or WPA) and what channel are you on? Often routers have a default channel and people fail to switch it which puts lots of people on the same channel which can cause issues.
If someone with the same IP is on the network then either someone is manualy configuring an IP or something has gone wrong. Can you give more information as to your hardware, software and network setup?
AVG is fine, you should also be running a spyware scanner, malware checker and cookie cleaner regularly.
AVG, Spybot S&D, adaware, spywareguard, spywareblaster and CCleaner are all good free tools.

if it's your wireless network then I suspect you do not have your security turned on, just change the settings to enable WEP or WPA (which will stop anyone else apart from you accessing it)

if you need help finding out how to do this then just let us know which Wirelss router make and model you have (should be on the sticker on it)

Turn on your encryption as someone is locking on to it. Never run a wireless network open as others will jump on it and abuse it. Do you know the model number? We can get the instructions for turning on the security features for you.

you need to access internet explorer and then type 192.168.2.254 where you would type the web addresses and hit enter

then a new screen will come up (it may ask for a password but this used to be blank)

on the left is a section that says encryption

was the Wireless supplied by your broadband company ?? if so which company are you with ??

The one I like on another thread is:

Espresso: So did you update your AVG to ver 7.5 and encrypt your wireless with WPA-PSK then?

cazxx1: Yes but guess what it has just gone off again

OP seems to have previously understood encryption. Not just ignored helpful responses. Looks like we have an extreme case of negative learning, the OP is actually losing knowledge!!!
