Can I claim direct from the manufacturer?

Just thought I'd update this thread with the final outcome.

After the really useful advice I received in this thread, I decided to try a slightly different tack. I found the manufacturer's main switchboard number on the internet as I only had the one for their warranty department/customer services.

I asked at the switchboard to be connected to their spare parts department. On connection, I described the part I wanted and the reason why. The nice man there said they didn't actually sell that part, but knew exactly what I was after and said he actually had a couple in his desk. He said he'd pop one in the post to me no questions asked.

It arrived this morning in the post.
