Don't know if this is right place or not.
Last week - Tuesday - I managed to find a good deal for my house insurance after the renewal came in at £15 more - no claims - so found new one for £30. So gave them my bank details and DD to start on the first of month.
Wednesday - notice my bank account was at zero and I thought I had £20 till pay day. Phoned bank and they said it was a payment pending from my new account and if I don't put money in soon I could be charged £25 for being over drawn.
I was getting my wages Friday but as it could come out at any time I borrowed some money from a friend and went to the bank in Glasgow.
I am with HSBC and there is only that branch in Glasgow. I got there about 8pm (had to have the money there by 11.30, so no charge).
I was annoyed as the machine in the outside wouldn't allow cash payments but the ones inside did but it was all locked up.
Feel this is unfair as I would of been charge through no fault of my own. I put the money in next day 10am via machine inside - too long a queue at counter.
Money came out later that day but if I hadn't paid money in I would of been charged.
Is there no machines in Scotland that accept cash for HSBC - account was taken out years ago and I have so much linked to my account think it would be difficult to change banks.
SOrry for my grrrrrrrrrrr

You can also pay into HSBC accounts electronically or via the Post Office.
If the sum that had been due to come out of your account is low or you haven't been overdrawn in 6 months - you won't be charged the full £25 (see here). If you don't have one maybe you should arrange for a small emergancy overdraft.
If you use HSBC Internet Banking the 'Pending transactions' page shows you what direct debits are due to come out of your account the next day.
