Repaying Tax Credit Overpayment

I have a letter asking for me to repay an overpayment of £473.57 from 05/04/2006
They tell me I can pay over 12 months if I want to but that still works out at £40 per month. Is there any way I can ask them for longer to pay as I really don't want to be paying out that much to them.
Thanks

I am paying £25 a month for a £700ish overpayment.
I couldn't afford to have repaid it within 12 months so I just rang and explained, then offered the £25, they seemed happy enough with that
