We recently bought a new Acer Aspire T180 desktop, but have a couple of errors occurring and have been told by the Acer support desk that we need to do a system recovery to rule out that the problem is a software related one.

As you can imagine, we are not very happy about having to do this ourselves considering that it is a new computer which shouldn't have any problems, but I guess we are stuck with it so any suggestions for the quickest and cheapest option would be much appreciated please.

Hi I too recently purchased the Acer t180 and had problems from day 3. After 8 factory restores in less than 28 days of purchase PC world ran a diagnostic check over 48 hours.
It was found to be a motherboard problem and so got new replacement yesterday
Hope your problem gets resolved easier than mine got fed up with amount of time spent trying to resolve this.

Perhaps you should try this website

    http://www.bobthebackup.com

I don't know if there is a minimum term contract or whatever, but I do have a code for 3 months free if you want to PM me. (That is if it is still valid!!)

Not exactly cheap though. I use Carbonite, about £30/year compared to £60/year in that link and it is unlimited storage. So if you were backing up 100 GiB would you want to pay over £200 for bob the backup or £30 at cabonite? I suppose that's why they didn't include Carbonite in their comparison chart.

I was just thinking about the free period - just not sure if you have to sign up for any length of time!

Hi again Albertross, was just reviewing this thread and realised I didn't answer you with regard to the content. I have copied and pasted that file location into "run" and "search" but it is coming up that it doesn't exist - any ideas please?

yes thats right select yes and reboot the system
    the check will start automatically
i am a tech and i would charge between 45 and 90 to backup and reinstall a laptop providing the system will take a reinstall.

run the check your looking for bad sectors other wise the drive should be fine.
as for backing up a 4 gb usb pen might be of use

if you send me your mimidump file i will look at it and see if i can identify the problem

    %SystemRoot%\Minidump
%SystemRoot% is usaly the c:\windows folder

    Hi again TheOneSteeltips

Tried to pm you to ask for your email address to send you my minidump file, but not sure if you received the message. Please would you pm me and tell me where I should send it. Many thanks.

Mine's slower than your at only 512 download but it's an app that runs in the background so took about two weeks before everything I wanted was backed up the first time but after that it only needs to back up the changed files.
