Plastering and painting - how much ?

I've never used a steamer and I've stripped a lot of wallpaper. Bucket of warm water and a squidge of fairy, wipe on with a large sponge and leave to soak for a few minutes. Usually it nearly comes off in whole strips.
Is this for wallpaper that has been painted on?There is more to life than increasing its speed.0 -
My advice is to find a plasterer and talk to them first - they seem to be the key to this project.
On a renovation house, we had awful woodchip ceilings and rather than strip them, our plasterer plaster-boarded straight over it then smooth plaster finished the ceilings = no endless hours stripping woodchip.
He offered advice on the minimum he needed us to do prior to him working and offered advice how we needed to paint fresh plaster ourselves.
Depending on what type of finish you're looking for, you might want to check your local newspaper classifieds - we have a "husband and wife" team who changed career a few years back and do a "good" job all round at half the price of time served decorators; a more professional finish is achievable but costs more.
I'd avoid the "I'll do everything" quotes, and try talking direct to a plasterer and then a decorator - it'll be cheaper.--- Warning: Grumpy Old Man in Training ---0 -
The O.P seems to be in a position athat saving a few quid is going to be more costly in terms of time and hassle. My advice to the original poster is to get another coupe of quotes. It's not worth your day saving a few quid as it would probably work out more hassle that it's worth. I wouldn't use trade comparison sites as the reviews are junk. Invest you valuable limited time on getting a good quote, and be specific on the specifics, oh and a quote not an estimate!0
