I want to move the computer from the living room to our spare bedroom, how easy is it going to be.
We are on cable(ntl), we have broadband, tv & phone with cables everywhere.
Do we need to have wires going upstairs or can we do wireless.
How secure is wireless?. Which is best
What else should i be thinking of.
Cheers in advance

One way would be to get a wireless router and that way you can remove the need for a cable from the modem to the PC. Wireless with WEP enabled and a good password would lock down your network more than enough to keep out the normal crowd of people that try it on with open networks. You will need a router capable of both handling the speed your VVirgin Media connection runs at as well as the type of connection. (Not ADSL router as it will not work) You will also need a card or adaptor for the PC to connect to the router. You can buy paired bundles relatively cheaply now and they are not hard to set up.0

WEP has been cracked easily now in about 1 minute so the current advice is to use WPA at least

Will the computer be as fast as normal or will it slow down using a wireless router.if i had known then what i know now0 -

Nothing can go faster than the slowest link in the chain, so assuming a reasonable signal, if your ISP is 4 Mbit/s and your wireless connection is 11 Mbit/s or higher, 4 is the fastest you'll get. If however the signal is poor and your wireless connection drops to 1 Mbit/s, that becomes the slowest link in the chain. A wired connection would always run at 4 Mbit/s maximum in this case.0
