Was just out with mutt for his walk, a bit later than usual and on the way back noticed two very wet labs bounding towards us off lead. Looked around for an owner but couldn't see one anywhere. They seemed friendly enough and followed us a bit, so I called them over, asked them to sit and checked their collars. Sadly, no tags. I considered bringing them home but then what? In any case they followed us for about 2 minutes then ran off in the opposite direction. Not sure if they'd escaped from a garden or a dog walker or if they were taking themselves for a walk. Is there anything I should do?

Where I am the police will take the dogs if you take them to your nearest station if its out with the opening times for the local pound.
If the pound is open you can take them there directly.0 -
Sadly I was out walking on a rural path and only had one lead with me too so wasn't much I could do. I'll keep an eye out on other walks and if I see them loose I'll round them up and check if they're chipped. They looked quite healthy so perhaps they escaped.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. If they had collars then it sounds more likely that they had escaped from a garden or maybe run off while being walked. As long as they didn't seem injured or in any immediate danger I would have left them for the time being as if the owner is searching for them they are more likely to find them in the general area rather than people moving them (no matter how well meaning). Just maybe keep an eye out for them next time you're out.0

The Dog Warden would be responsible for straying dogs rather than the police. The police may offer help, but they don't really have to. I'd give them a ring to log it anyway.
You could also log the sighting on DogLost, incase they are genuinely missing dogs.0 -
We have found several lost dogs over the years, one had a mobile number on the tag which was great owner there in 5 mins, one we took to our vets and it was chipped and was registered at that vet and the third we had to take to the council dog pound.
I just hope if my dog goes missing and someone manages to get hold of her they take the trouble we have.
On the one occasion she scarped from my husband because of a firework she ran home awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww0
