Parental Issues

My parents forced me to put half my paycheck into a joint savings account for as long as I've had a job. They set it so that I could not withdraw money, in order to prevent me from getting money out of it, which seemed fair enough at the time. A year later, I turn 18 and tell my parents I want to go start a new savings account in my own name. I go out and do just that, however; my parents inform me that they won't be giving me any of the $1500 in old joint savings account. I went to the local branch of the bank and the guy and the front desk wouldn't give me the time of day. Things have now gotten so bad with my parents, that I'm contemplating moving out. Before I do so, I want to try and get my $1500 back. Does anyone know my rights as far as this situation goes? I'd like to close out the account and take the money, but as I said earlier, the guy at the front desk won't give me the time of day. I need suggests, as well as some information concerning what I can and can't do. Thanks

Asking for help on a US legal issue on a UK board is not likely to be fruitful. Sorry.0
