mobile air conditioner unit

Need info on a Carlton mobile air cooling unit
I know the outlet pipe is supposed to go outside, through window or cut through wall, but can you just run the vent pipe into a ice box as you do with tumble driers
thanks

the air con works as a heat exchanger .if you do have a box of ice handy ,then a normal fan blowing over a box of ice would be as effective and would save you a whole heap of money ...producing ice (or buying it)..running an air conditioner ...just to blow the hot air over the ice and melt it..

a big fan and a few open windows would be far better

    Nooo.

YOu have to have the hose venting outside. Tumble dryers ice boxes are to stop the humidity and heat, your not trying to lower the room temperature. You will not achieve anything this way you need to ensure it is vented outside so the hot air can escape.

portable air con systems cause a temperature raise of about 16deg for every 1deg of cooling, if your a "green" person this is a very bad idea, apart from the fact that they strip the moisture from the air and use as much leccy as a tumble dryer to run

So its a no to the ice box
What if i just wanted to cool one room, say bedroom, could it be done if the vent was going through a part open door

It says you can run the vent through a part open window, using the adaptor and foam fitting

I know the airs still inside the other room but it would atleas mean one cool room in the house
    thanks

It makes no sense to do that, the hot air wouldn't stay outside the door! The only way to get them to work is to vent outside. Of course if it's still hot outside you will get some of the warm air coming in from outside too... Best thing is to lower the temp in the house as much as possible (keep curtains closed if in direct sunshine, open windows on shadey side of house, open windows on bottom & top of house to create draught etc etc) then you wont need to use your air con which has to be a win win situation financially & environmentally. :D

I have had a mobile air conditioner for years, found them to be very good.

One tip; if at all possible don't use the hose. Put the unit right up against the wall and vent it through a very short length of rigid pipe straight through the wall. 5 or 6 feet of flexible plastic hose acts as a wonderful radiator and much of the heat you have just removed from the room is put straight back into it !
