scottish power manweb problem - please help
hi, moved house 2 years ago (may '05) but recently received a huge 'formal demand' bill from scottish power's solicitors. they say i owe for time between 1998 until march 2007. i have lucky managed to find statements for both gas and electricity from the company (Npower) i was using but they only date back to 2001. i have not used scottish power at my new home either. i dont no where i stand (paying for years i have no proof) and i dont no what to write in a letter. please please help

the formal demand you have received - is it for gas or electricity? Or one for each?
there are huge numbers of scenarios that it could be here, so you need to find the facts out first.
The first important thing to find out is what supply period it covers and what is it for (gas or elec). And confirm what supply address it is. The demand should state that information anyway. It should state what it is for. Get the mpan (for elec) or mprn (for gas) and confirm that it is the same as you've paid on at that address.
If it's a different mprn or mpan number to what you'd paid on it's a nightmare trying to figure out what is what!
Once you've found that information out, make sure it is an addresss you lived at and you were there for the period in question.
Assuming it could be your bill then, phone up mpas (for electricity) or the mprn helpline (for gas) to confirm what periods the appropriate address was supplied by what electricity or gas companies.
this is a good website for finding out your mpas number

the MPRN helpline is 0870 608 1524
There are huge numbers of scenarios depending on whether scottish power are billing you rightly or wrongly. Once you're at a point of knowing what you are dealing with then you can start to figure it all out.
I hope you get it figured out.Indecision is the key to flexibility

oh and under statue of limitation law any debt over 6 years old is not enforceable in a court unless you have made payments towards it or admitted you owe it. So I think they have cheek chasing you for 1998 debt!Indecision is the key to flexibility
