negotiating value vs storage costs

Hi,

bit of advice please.

i am claiming through the third party insurer - fault as been established with the third party.

they offered me an amount on Saturday to write of off and dispose of the car or to take a lower amount and keep the car.

I have put forward my response to negotiate a higher amount, providing them supporting info.

that was Saturday..bear in mind i replied same day.

they had not contacted me in 8 days since the third party notified

i have today been called by the company dealing with their claims ( CIS being the insurer and Parabis being the company i spoke to, telling me they will only cover the £25 storage fee until today and from tomorrow it will be on my back.

what they want is for me to confirm its ok for them to take the car from the garage to dispose of it

i told them this is so unfair and unreasonable because i am in the middle of discussing the valuation they gave me and not even had 1 day to consider or get a reply.

are they able to do this - what comeback do i have ? i feel powerless as i am not their policy holder.

my other concern is that if discussions break down with the third party, then with no vehicle, how do i go through a claim with my insurer should there be a need to do so.

is this a purposeful tactic by them - ? if so, why ?

feel a bit lost here. -i do not want to agree to anything that may comeback on me.

Get an email address and write telling them that you will accept the amount offered on an interim basis whilst you investigate their offer to see if you agree it is reasonable. Ask them to respond to you confirming that the payment is to be made on an interim basis.

As you say, because you are claiming directly from the TPI then you have no "protection" outside of the courts.

First of all, how much is the amount in dispute over? Are they offering £1,000 but you want £1,010 or something of a bigger gap?

Will you want to retain the vehicle and take a lower settlement or do you want rid of the vehicle? If you want to retain then agree for them to return it to you now and you can continue discussing settlement when its not incurring storage.

You could ask them if they dont have a facility they can move it to that is free for them to store it. Most insurers do but then they'd incur costs for moving it twice - these are still possibly lower than the storage fees.

Have you seen a copy of their engineer report or equiv from which the valuation was based? Are you happy with its content, photos etc just not the valuation or are there more fundamental issues with it? If you are happy with the report just not the valuation then it'd not be the worst thing to dispose of the vehicle.
