http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/medical/AAG/chapterview.aspx is for medics but might be worth having a read and then discussing with your doctor.

    thanks for all the info
one more question, when do you need to inform DVLA, I haven't driven, am due to see hospital next month and looks like they will sign me off as I am back to normal, apart from some words in my speech.

am I to assume than DVLA will backdate any withdrawal of licence to drive to the date the incident?

This will be 3 months since it happened.

I just haven't seen the urgent to inform them as I have so many financial stuff to deal with and I haven't been driving and couldn't afford to even If I was allowed, due to no sick pay.... just SSP, mortgage has had to go on stop and off to food bank tomorrow :-(

No, the lay off starts from when your surgeon/doctor is satisfied that your symptoms appear to have settled and act as a buffer for any short-term reoccurrence.

confused.... are you saying that if my surgeon says next month I am fine, DVLA will add the licence suspend it from that date?

so if it was for 6 months, they would take it for 6 + the 3 months already passed?

Apologies. If you have had a sudden subdural haematoma you inform the DVLA and they normally suspend your licence for six months (the buffer zone to make sure there are no other symptoms). If after those six months your surgeon/doctor say you are fine, you can reapply for the licence.

    ah ok,

mine was different, it states that once recovered you can drive, unless you drive a bus/lorry then it is 6 - 12 months...

I am hoping that next month I will be classed as recovered by the hospital and there for when I approach DVLA I will be allowed to keep my licence.... that will be 3 months and everything is fine apart from odd word...

    am I making sense?

I haven't heard from DVLA the last letter was in September saying it would be x weeks bringing me up till 13/12/13

Still haven't heard, should I contact them?

Why would I not have heard from them either saying ok or to return my licence

9 months have now passed since the accident

5 months since I have heard from them

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
