Dead laptop screen

Screen has been flickering for ages on old laptop, like a very dark shadow passing over it. Has finally gone permenantly dark and I have now bought a new laptop.

Can I somehow plug another screen into old laptop to access files on it so I can transfer them to new laptop?

Dont forget your dead laptop will be worth quite a few quid on ebay for parts.

Or if your lucky you can pick up a cheap screen and replace yours. Sounds like the cold cathode has gone in the screen.
