faulty LG Tv only 20 months old

Hi All
Bought a new TV Aug 2011 with credit card from the local Co-op. Still got the receipt.
TV is a LG 32" LCD one with Freeview.
I forgot to register it but it only had a years warranty anyway which is up now.
The picture fades and goes off regularly leaving just the sound. I turn it off for about half an hour and when I turn it on the picture stays on for about 10mins and then goes off again.
went to local manager armed with the sale of goods act I read about on here. Manager was very nice but said she couldn't make a decision and told me to contact Co-op head office.
I phoned them and he said, after much deliberation, that I would have to get an engineers report to prove the TV was faulty. Then take it back to local co-op.
Being a pensioner I don't think I could afford an engineers report. And after that they said they might only give me a partial refund considering Ive had it longer than the warranty.

Can anyone help me with some advice please? would be grateful

Under the law, if the purchase develops a fault within the first six months then the responsibility is on the retailer to rectify it unless it can prove that it has not been used correctly.

After the first six months the onus is on the customer to prove that the fault is a manufacturing defect.

This might be your best avenue to go down - see what they offer - then ask for more :D

Browntoa has done it for you, although the first two answers do give you the information you need to know.

Have you searched on Google to see if other people are having the same problem? What is the model number?

Yes I have searched Google and it said it could be a number of things which I suppose could only be determined by an engineer but the likely fault could be a faulty LCD card that sits behind the control panel but I am no expert.
    the model number is 320LD320-ZA

If the report is found in your favour, the retailer would be responsible for reimbursing you the cost.

They've done what they need to within the law.

You have to prove it's faulty by an independent inspection, and that's down to you to arrange. They'll have to repay this cost if it's in your favour though.

Any refund will take use into account, so you won't get the full amount back.

Co Op are bang on the money, so my advice is to do as they say. They're doing the right thing.
