Its not your banks responsibility to tell you, its your responsibility to keep an eye on your accounts.
  • The bank have said it was not linked to the other accounts for some reason which is why it wouldnt have appeared on my online banking and I was signed up to paperless statements.

I understand its my responsibility to keep an eye on things, but I'm here because I am taking responsibility for matters and ultimately, wanting to move things forward. And advice is helpful to me for the future, but explaining what I should and shouldnt have done at the time can't change mistakes that have been made. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I have always been very conscientious financially, but life was hectic at the time; there were other priorities and I maintain that had the address been changed with the other accounts, this situation would not have arison.

Thats exactly why your credit rating isn't great, your life was hectic and you had other priorities rather than keeping track of your account.

Its nothing to be ashamed off, most people on this site including me have made errors and come here for help. The most important thing is you have learned from it.

Blaming the post man wont change anything though. Going to have to wait the 6 long years for the default to drop off.

Thank you for your opinions. It was a current account that defaulted. Hwhite its very interesting to read your story, Id be interested to learn of the outcome once it gets there. Sounds like a lot of hassle and faff for you and your chap but hopefully you will have a positive result.
I might think about ringing the ombudsman if only for an opinion of whether or not its worth taking further. Do feel like Im clutching at straws though!!

to get defaults removed do not bother with customer services go straight to the data controller,i had similiar with ltsb the second time i finally had a call from the data controller who reduced balance to £0 and removed the default within 2 days

So hectic your forgot you had an overdraft. Hardly grounds for a complaint. Let history wither away.

To improve matters tidy up your current status as far as possible. Also save that little bit harder to boost your deposit a little higher. As all helps to swing the balance in your favour.
