I have just noticed all my songs bought from Napster are protected, so they don't play on my MP3 player. Does anyone know how to unprotect them?

Thanks

Why is this an 'Illegal Topic' when I have purchased songs & can't play them on my MP3 player? What is the point of buying them, if they can't be played on another device?

Maybe the best way is to ask Napster or post on another forum.

if your mp3 player isn't there you can't.

also you might not be on the correct napster service - only some packages let you transfer songs to your mp3 player. No wonder the iPod is the most popular mp3 player!

Forum rules are forum rules. If you disagree with them then I suggest you take it up with [Removed by Forum Team]

As for it being illegal, under the copyright act of 1988 you cannot change the media or format of any material without the copyright owner's permission. You have not "purchased songs", you have purchased the licenses to use copies of those songs within the terms of the respective license and UK law.

I didn't know it was an 'illegal' topic, which is why I posted here. I never said I disagreed with the Forum Rules either. I just presumed I could transfer the music, that was all.

You can load songs purchased from Napster via their site - assuming it recognises your player. It should show up in the bottom right hand corner when it has detected it. I think there's a simple command to transfer songs to your MP3 player - trying right clicking on the song. You can't drag and drop via you My Music folder because Napster songs are protected - even the ones you've purchased.

Note to Mods: This is not a discussion about anything illegal or breaking protection, just about how you transfer songs you've purchased - which can only be done via the Napster site.

I think the main issue is that the MP3 player won't play protected songs. Unfortunately many cheaper and/or old players won't.
