Rightmove - filters ?

Am I missing something, or is Rightmove decidedly lacking in the ability to filter properties based on some fairly basic wants such as having a garden, garage or off-road parking, number of bathrooms etc ? All I can see that it allows you to state is minimum / maximum number of bedrooms, price, type of house (flat, bungalow house etc and location).

I'm fed up with getting back a massive list of properties and having to go into the details of each one to see whether the property has the basic amenities that I'm looking for. The site doesn't seem to have changed significantly since I last used it in earnest over ten years ago.

I guess that they may be reluctant to let people filter their requirements too precisely, as that would result in less clicks on individual prerties, but returning a results list that would show at a glance if the property had a garage or a garden for example would be really helpful.

Define a garden; is it a 10ft square piece of grass? Where would you draw the line?

Garage’s are also varied in terms of size and lack a legal definition, is a flimsy timber shed big enough to fit a car in a garage, is an 1960’s garage which won’t fit a modern car, a garage?

Everything on right move is a matter of fact (bedroom numbers are constrained by building regulations).

I do agree that an off road parking filter would be nice though.

Rightmove hasn’t changed much because it works, very well!

When I used rightmove a few days ago, after putting in the basic search requirements and searching, there is a menu lower on the left hand side which has a more detailed search with how many of the properties fit in each more detailed search which from memory included garden/parking/character and a few others.

While we are on about rightmove filtering , howe about a filter so you can define the age of house you want, anything post ~1950 is a no right away for me (very few exceptions) but I have to see the blooming things anyway!

What annoys me is that you can't select for semi, detached, terrace etc. Very important I would have thought.

Sure you can, once you've selected and searched on the main filters it shows another filter list on the left hand side, detached, semi, terrace, garden, parking, retirement etc

My main gripe is you filter for one bedroom flats and the first few pages are all studio flats which actually has it's own filter.
    It's someone else's fault.

This is a problem with the estate agents selecting the wrong options when entering a property.

It would be nice to flag a property as displaying wrong.

Also, the ability to exclude a property from future results; there are properties in the list I have zero interest in ever viewing.

Same here - the filter for *brand new homes* as opposed to *pre-owned homes* is of little use when you're searching for something 100+ years old and consider anything from about 1980 onwards to be a *new* house :o Using the *character* filter is pretty useless too IMHO - as most EAs don't seem to bother selecting this and many character properties are therefore lost in amongst everything else......

I remember that Primelocation used to have a keyword search - so if you wanted houses with (for example) a swimming pool you could search using the keyword *pool* ;)
