PPi Claim - Where to start?

In around the year 2000 I purchased a number of electrical goods from Comet via their finance scheme.
I may or may not have been miss sold PPI, but it's certainly something I would like to look into. If they were doing it I most likely had it.
The problem is I just don't know where to start. I have none of the paperwork, Comet have since gone bust, and have no idea who actually provided the finance.
Am I chasing a lost cause here or is there something I can try?
Thanks guys.

As you have no paperwork and due to the time scale, I don't think you would have a case, you would complain to Comet in the first instance and as they have gone bust you would be hard pressed to take this further even with the paperwork.0
