Hi I used my strimmer on some really tough couch grass/weeds this morning and it was ok for awhile then it started to smoke a bit, even though it sounded ok would you bin it do you think or would it just have been overheating as the weeds and couch grass are quite overgrown I have not long replaced the 'string' on it:( so I wouldn't want to waste it or should I just try to replace the strimmer with a new one

First off, make sure you have it plugged in via an Earth Current Leakage [ECL] plug, around a tenner in DIY sheds, the tenner may well save your life
Then plug it in, switch on and use it in open air, not cutting grass etc, just running, & hope for the best
If no smoke then carry on regardless, but always use ECLEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Check all the vents are clear, smoking is often caused by overheating due to blocked vents.0

Bear in mind that most electric strimmers are not man enough for heavy grass and strong weeds so a petrol is the best way to go. Get the dearest you can afford as cheap own brands are ok when running but difficult if not impossible to get spares.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
