If you are signed on you will also be getting NI paid, which may help you later on, especially for pension contributions.

They are not there to help people into work

If the job centre isn't going to help, who is? Is there no one? I'm genuinely asking this as I don't know. I've never been out of work until now.

you have to apply for jobs and help yourself if you can. After 12 months or 6 if you are under 25yrs old you will be sent to the Work Programme who pretend they can help

I honestly feel I'm doing everything I can to help myself. I just don't seem to be getting anywhere.

The reason I left is not something I want or need to get into on here. They said they would send my p45 but they haven't. If possible I would just like someone to answer my original question. Thanks

The reason you left is something that the Jobcentre will want to know - and will check with your employer. The reason affects your entitlement to JSA.

Do ask about help with CVs and job search skills in general. There may be somewhere they can refer you even in the early days. It may be a service offered by an outside organisation which sends someone to meet clients in the jobcentre.

I will discuss why i left with the jobcentre- I have no problem doing so. I just don't feel that i need to go into it on here when all i asked was a simple question that isn't related to the actual reason i left.
    Thanks

Your P45 would have detailed your wages from 6th Aprill 2012 to your last pay in Feb 2013. If you have your last payslip it should have all that details. If you were not paid up to 5th April 2013 ie no holiday pay or severance pay added then you may have paid too much tax for the tax year 2012/13.
