Wow, that is a heck of a lot of money to be spending on petrol! I don't really know what to suggest either other than looking into getting a more economical car like you're already doing.
Well done on another big lump getting paid off the debt though! :TOvercome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
That's an eye watering amount of petrol! If going down the diesel route is going to work out cheaper in the long run then I would definitely seriously consider it.
Well it's official, I'm getting married on 29th October 2015! Signed the contract on the venue and paid the deposit today, as well as confirming with the registrar and taking out wedding insurance. If you're interested in seeing the venue, the link is here.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -

Thanks Dinah! It was the first place we saw and as soon as we walked in my heart fell for the place.
Just seen how much money you've paid off since January! So, playing around with numbers some more. NIMs daily rate means that we have £30.58 a day after tax, pension etc left for everything else (freaking depressing that 2/5 of his income goes on just getting to the job). So I'm thinking I might challenge myself to make that much a day for the next few months to boost the debt clearance, in essence make as much staying at home as he does working. If I counted the fact that childcare at the nursery we were going to be sending her to was £28 a day, and we're saving that by me being here I'd make a complete mockery of my money making/saving
. So to challenge myself a little, I'm even going to backdate it to 1st Feb, meaning I have to have £856.31 extra made in Feb to equal what NIM brings in. I think I might have about done that already this month
We also realised we'd actually be better off with him working 30 hours a week at the care home, and having tax credits than we are right now. Which is mad. But obviously where he is now has career progression and that wouldn't.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Quick delurk
Does NIM have to drive ALL the time Dinah? Are there some journeys where public transport (especially if he can plan ahead) would make more sense financially ? I know he was MSing before- can that not be used to offset some of the petrol costs? Eg reduce the daily rate (eg £20.58 less say £15 MS fees makes the daily rate a lot more digestible) plus expenses with MSing offset more tax.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Hi Duchy, thanks for delurking. Unfortunately the train is £48.90 a day, so its not an option at all. He does do some mystery shopping still, but the money from that has been going into a separate account as his consultancy needs to pay out two lots of interviewer costs which are about £600 each soon. So between the consultancy and the MSing yes he should get a little tax relief, but the consultancy's profits will mean he does pay tax on it, but yes the MS will reduce it. Phew! Really need him to get another tender through the consultancy at this point as the one hes working on at the moment is over half way through.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
